Students aged from 11 to 19 attend Xers; all are able to learn in either a one to one or small group setting. More specific, individually devised learning is provided in the education room. All the students that come into the education room are currently offered a wide range of activities that enable them to achieve accreditation.  AQA Unit Awards and Entry Level Certification in English, Maths, ICT, PHSE and Preparation for Working Life are available to all students. Whilst in preparation for PHSE becoming a statutory requirement at KS4 in September 2009, Xers already has students involved in the pilot scheme for a Level 1(GCSE D-G) which will be examined this summer 2009.

The Year 11 students attending the education room are all working towards the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Tests. Many have already achieved Level 1 and are about to complete Level 2.  Some Year 11 students receive GCSE Maths and English support in liaison with their main stream schools.  Others attending  Xers for up to 4 days a week have individual timetables offering 3 to 25 hours one to one tuition  a week. This enables specific programmes to be designed to help combat special educational needs such as poor basic literacy and numeracy skills, Dyslexia, Asperger’s Syndrome and Tourettes’ Syndrome.

The Middle school pupils currently attending Xers for Computer Studies, Literacy and Numeracy support are gaining additional qualifications in Science and Physical Education, whilst other students have been able to gain Unit Award Accreditation based on their Outdoor Activities such as Fishing.
